Press Release

Frost & Sullivan Lauds WJ Communications for Innovating Solutions for High Growth RFID Markets

Palo Alto, Calif., June 27, 2007 -- Based on its recent analysis of the RFID readers market, Frost & Sullivan has recognized WJ Communications, Inc. with the 2007 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation. The award is in recognition of the company’s strategic product development efforts for the WJC200 RFID reader chipset and the WJM3000 RFID reader modules.

“The key to WJ’s product innovation strategy is based on a keen understanding of customer needs and designing solutions based on such requirements,” said Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Priyanka Gouthaman. “The WJC200 RFID reader chipset and the WJM3000 RFID reader modules ensure smaller form factors and highly competitive price points, thereby supporting customers with their ROI objectives.”

“We are honored that Frost & Sullivan has acknowledged WJ as an innovator amongst our peers.” said Morteza Saidi, Vice President of Engineering at WJ Communications. “Our engineering team constantly strives to develop world class products. Winning the Frost & Sullivan award validates our leadership and dedication to excellence.”

WJ’s RFID chipset also includes external controller support for other protocols thereby protecting consumer investments from the threat of obsolescence. WJ’s degree of local responsive strategy is corroborated in its design flexibility that extends to include reader displays in regional languages.

Another significant advantage is the low power dissipation of the readers using the WJC200 chipset. The WJC200 chipset facilitates switching readers to standby and sleep modes and optimizing power consumption, thereby extending the battery life.

WJC200 chipset-enabled readers also include the dense reader mask (DRM) compliant transmission, which enables multiple readers to be operated in close proximity to one other, thereby improving tag readability. Digital filters within the chipset facilitate data encoding and decoding programmability at the reader level.

“The company’s combined design and manufacturing expertise for both, RFID reader chipsets and modules is a strategic and technical advantage for WJ Communications,” cites Gouthaman. “WJ can therefore capitalize on opportunities from different ends of the value chain.”

WJ Communications’ R&D efforts have enabled the company in developing a highly relevant RFID portfolio that addresses present and future industry needs and can continue to sustain the innovative edge that has been achieved with the WJC200 chipset.

“With mobile RFID solutions expected to witness significant future growth rates across application and vertical markets, the WJ strategy is aligned with target applications for the reader chipsets directed at RFID-enabled mobile and handheld devices, fork lift readers, and RFID portal readers,” notes Gouthaman.

WJ’s product developments efforts are also supported by key marketing partnerships and technical alliances. The integration of the WJC200 chipset with leading RFID reader manufacturer brands such as Motorola, Inc. (Symbol Technologies, Inc.) and Intelleflex reflects the overall product acceptance of the WJ solution within the industry.

Along with increasing R&D investments, the company’s global expansion initiatives and innovative product offerings are expected to position WJ communications among the leading players within the RFID readers market in future.

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within their industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
